Propel Industries Electrifying the HD Mining Tipper Space

The company’s electric tippers have already crossed five lakh cumulative operating hours, with the very first set of eight trucks racking up 12,500 hours within just two years.

In the dust and noise of mines and mega construction sites, one thing matters above all else—uptime. Machines must move, loads must flow, and every lost minute costs money. It is this reality that has shaped Coimbatore-headquartered Propel Industries’ electric journey, one that is now gaining significant momentum.

At EXCON 2025, Propel Industries, India’s leader in crushing and screening equipment and a pioneer in electric tippers, unveiled a new generation of electric machines. According to Mr. V. Senthilkumar, Managing Director of the company, these machines are designed not just to cut emissions, but to deliver real, measurable business value in the toughest operating conditions.

Electric, but Built for the Real World

The company showcased four new electric models—70CED, 90CED, 470MEV Gen-2 and 560HEV-X—each engineered specifically for mining and large construction applications. These are not experimental machines. They are production-ready vehicles designed to work long hours, carry heavier loads, and operate reliably across coal mines, iron-ore belts, quarries, and large infrastructure projects.

Speaking to this publication, Mr. Senthilkumar, said, “What truly sets these machines apart is speed—specifically, charging speed. Propel has moved far beyond the one-hour charging benchmarks seen earlier in the industry. Using megawatt charging technology, its latest electric tippers can now charge from zero to 100% in just 20 minutes, even with battery capacities as high as 300 kW and beyond. For mining operators, this changes everything. Faster charging means higher uptime, more trips per shift, and faster payback—making electric machines not just cleaner, but smarter investments.”

Power that Pays Back

Propel’s electric tippers deliver between 500 hp and 900 hp, depending on the model. But raw power is only part of the story. These motors also act as generators when vehicles travel downhill, regenerating energy through braking. In mining environments with slopes and varying terrain, this regenerative braking not only recovers energy but also reduces wear on traditional braking systems.

The result is lower maintenance, longer component life, and improved operating economics. With far fewer moving parts than diesel machines, “we estimate machine uptime of up to 99%. Over the lifecycle of the vehicle, this translates into nearly 30% lower total cost of ownership compared to diesel alternatives,” Mr. Senthilkumar said.

New Line-Up

The flagship 90CED stands out as India’s first ultra-fast charging 90-tonne electric dumper. With a 34 cubic metre body and battery options ranging from 310 kWh to 650 kWh, it is built for high-output mining. Safety has been given equal priority, with features such as ADAS Level-1 systems, electronic braking, driver fatigue monitoring, fail-safe parking and full DGMS compliance.

The 70CED, India’s first 8×4 mining tipper with a 25 cubic metre rock body, focuses on higher payload per trip. The 560HEV-X brings similar capacity to large construction sites, while the 470MEV Gen-2 upgrades the popular 6×4 segment with higher carrying capacity, multiple battery options and full mining safety compliance.

Backing these machines is a class-leading battery warranty—five years or 5,000 cycles—supported by advanced lithium-ion batteries with built-in fire detection and suppression systems. “This focus on safety and durability has helped Propel build a strong reliability record across varied operating conditions,” he pointed out.

Beyond Machines: Building an Ecosystem

Propel’s vision goes beyond vehicles. At EXCON, the company also introduced Pulse.ev, a next-generation connectivity platform developed in-house. Designed specifically for electric mining and hauling, it offers real-time vehicle health monitoring, energy consumption insights, predictive maintenance, and fleet optimisation for multi-shift operations.

Complementing this digital layer is Pro EV Care, a comprehensive five-tier service programme. Built around uptime assurance, it offers modular service plans, predictable operating costs, and customised on-site support—ensuring electric fleets remain productive throughout their lifecycle.

Proven on the Ground

Since entering the EV truck market in 2023, Propel’s electric tippers have already logged over five lakh operating hours. The first batch of eight trucks alone has clocked 12,500 hours in two years—equivalent to nearly 20 hours of operation per day. These numbers prove that electric trucks are no longer a future promise, but a present-day reality.

Leading India’s Heavy EV Shift

As India accelerates toward zero-emission heavy mobility, Propel Industries has positioned itself at the front of the curve. With an indigenously engineered portfolio, fast-charging technology, strong digital backbone, and a clear focus on uptime and economics, the company is redefining what electric heavy-duty machines can achieve.
