Musashi India Doubles Bengaluru Plant Capacity, Completes Phase 2 Expansion

Musashi India, the wholly owned subsidiary of Japan’s Musashi Seimitsu Industries and a leading maker of two-wheeler and four-wheeler transmission components, has completed Phase 2 of its Bengaluru plant expansion, marking a major boost to India’s automotive and electric mobility ecosystem. The expanded unit will be fully operational by December 2025.

With the addition of 11,000 square metres to the existing footprint—bringing the total area to 32,000 square metres—the facility now strengthens its capabilities across forging, machining, and heat treatment. Production capacity has increased from four million to 6.5 million scooter and motorcycle transmission sets annually, nearly doubling output value from ₹5.5 billion to ₹10 billion per year.

The upgrade forms part of Musashi India’s long-term strategy to serve a wider customer base and grow its presence across internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) segments. The plant will now cater to 100–750cc motorcycles, 100–125cc scooters, and e-axles for both two- and three-wheelers, supporting domestic as well as export markets.

Cutting-edge automation technologies—including gear grinding systems, automated gear checking, and camera-based inspection—are integrated across production lines, supported by robotic and gantry-based material-handling systems. The facility will also function as a prototype and testing centre for ICE transmissions and e-axles, further strengthening Musashi’s engineering and innovation capabilities.

Sustainability is at the core of the new infrastructure. The plant houses a 2.16 million kWh rooftop solar installation, natural ventilation systems, and emission control mechanisms for all power generators. Today, it runs on more than 96 percent green energy sourced from hydro, wind, rooftop solar, and captive renewables. These steps align with Musashi’s global goal of achieving carbon neutrality across its value chain by 2038.

Speaking on the development, Mr. Naoya Nishimura, CEO, Musashi Auto Parts India and Africa Region, said, “The Bengaluru expansion is a major milestone in Musashi’s growth story in India. Built in just 18 months, it is now the largest integrated facility under one roof within the Musashi Group. It represents our ‘Go Far Beyond’ aim—bringing precision engineering, advanced automation, and sustainability together to set a new benchmark in manufacturing excellence. This facility strengthens our role in the global EV supply chain and reinforces our leadership in next-generation mobility solutions.”
