Marelli Unveils Intelligent Energy Management System to Boost EV Efficiency and Range

Marelli, the global mobility technology supplier, introduced its new Intelligent Energy Management solution for hybrid and electric vehicles at CTI Europe 2025 in Berlin. Designed as a modular, software-driven system, it coordinates the vehicle’s three key energy domains—thermal, propulsion and electronics—to deliver higher efficiency, longer battery life and improved overall performance.

At the core of the system is Marelli’s proprietary software, which seamlessly integrates with vehicle and zonal controllers. By managing all energy flows holistically, the solution enhances battery range, speeds up fast-charging cycles, reduces energy losses and ensures consistent cabin comfort. The system is engineered for both hybrid and full-electric vehicles and supports the evolution toward Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) architectures.

Built using advanced digital twin methodologies, the platform enables automakers to virtually simulate and test entire vehicle subsystems—including electronics, thermodynamics and hydraulics—significantly shortening development cycles and reducing costs. This approach supports deeper collaboration with OEMs and allows faster deployment of tailored solutions.

In the thermal domain, intelligent algorithms regulate heating and cooling processes, optimize thermal reuse and maintain precise temperature control to maximize battery longevity. For propulsion, the system continuously adjusts power delivery and energy recovery to extend driving range and strengthen overall vehicle resilience. On the electronics side, Marelli’s solution enhances system intelligence through high-speed communication protocols like CAN and Ethernet, enabling efficient data exchange between sensors, actuators and control units.

By streamlining system architecture and reducing component complexity, Marelli aims to offer a simplified, cost-effective solution that accelerates time-to-market for EV manufacturers.

Giovanni Mastrangelo, Head of R&D for Marelli’s Propulsion business, said, “Intelligent energy management is the central challenge in EV and hybrid development. Our digital twin and decoupled software approach gives automakers greater flexibility, faster development and a pathway to more sustainable, energy-efficient mobility.”
