Valeo Inaugurates Pune e-Axle Line to Power Mahindra’s Born Electric Platform

Valeo has inaugurated a new manufacturing line for electric powertrain systems at its Pune facility. The line was inaugurated on March 28 in the presence of Mr. Velusamy R, President – Automotive Business, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Mr. Xavier Dupont, CEO, Valeo Power Division.

The new facility will manufacture Valeo’s advanced 3-in-1 e-Axle, which integrates the motor, inverter and reducer into a compact system. The e-Axle has been selected by Mahindra for its upcoming Born Electric platform, underlining the growing collaboration between the two companies in the EV space.

Developed and manufactured in India, the integrated e-Axle is designed to deliver high efficiency, improved performance and enhanced reliability—key requirements for next-generation electric vehicles. The system incorporates Valeo’s latest motor technology and aims to support the evolving needs of India’s EV market.

The Pune plant, located in Lonikand, features advanced manufacturing capabilities, including automated lines for stator assembly using U-Pin or hairpin winding technology, inverter production, reducer assembly and final e-Axle integration. The facility is equipped with high levels of automation, precision engineering processes and digitalised systems that ensure end-to-end traceability and stringent quality control.

Mr. Dupont noted that India remains a key focus market under Valeo’s ‘Elevate 2028’ strategy, with localisation of advanced technologies playing a central role. Jayakumar G, President, Valeo India, added that the new line marks a significant milestone in the company’s growth journey in the country, bringing cutting-edge solutions closer to customers.
