Ashok Leyland Inaugurates Green Mobility-Focused CV Plant in Lucknow

Ashok Leyland, the flagship commercial vehicle company of the Hinduja Group, on Wednesday inaugurated its newest integrated manufacturing facility in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, marking a significant milestone in its green mobility journey. The state-of-the-art plant was inaugurated by Mr. Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, along with Mr. Rajnath Singh, Union Minister of Defence, and Mr. H. D. Kumaraswamy, Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises.

The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of several senior leaders from the Uttar Pradesh government, including Deputy Chief Ministers and cabinet ministers, diplomats from multiple countries, leading industrialists, Ashok Leyland’s global dealers and suppliers, as well as senior leadership from the Hinduja Group and Ashok Leyland.

Located at the Sarojini Nagar Industrial Area near Lucknow Airport, the facility spans over 70 acres and is Ashok Leyland’s most advanced and sustainable manufacturing plant globally. Designed with a strong focus on green mobility, the plant will primarily manufacture electric commercial vehicles and has an annual production capacity of up to 5,000 vehicles. The company highlighted that a majority of the workforce has been recruited locally from Uttar Pradesh, with a significant representation of women employees.

Mr. Dheeraj Hinduja, Chairman of Ashok Leyland, said the new plant marks an important new chapter for the company in Uttar Pradesh. He emphasised the Hinduja Group’s commitment to driving economic growth, creating employment opportunities and supporting long-term regional development. According to him, the Lucknow facility reinforces Ashok Leyland’s resolve to shape the future of India’s commercial vehicle industry while supporting the company’s Net Zero emission goals.

Mr. Shenu Agarwal, Managing Director and CEO of Ashok Leyland, noted that Uttar Pradesh’s strong focus on environmental responsibility and sustainable development made it a natural partner for the company’s green mobility ambitions. He added that the facility, equipped with modern technology and high levels of automation, reflects Ashok Leyland’s emphasis on quality and innovation, with a particular focus on electric buses as part of a cleaner, future-ready mobility ecosystem.

Beyond manufacturing, the Lucknow plant is expected to play a key role in skill development and employment generation in the region. Built as a green facility, it incorporates rooftop solar power, energy-efficient LED lighting, battery-operated internal logistics, positive water balance measures and a zero-discharge system, underlining Ashok Leyland’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing practices.
